For Valentine's Day...
Beyond My Ken*
Would then that now I know,
need sorrow ever been?
Need loving tears been ever shed?
These things, beyond my ken.
The years do ease the hurt,
and hardened should I be.
but heart and mind so seldom meet,
that still I think of thee.
No day shall pass without
a loving thought of then,
when love was new and so unwise,
like now, beyond my ken.
Would then that now I know,
need sorrow ever been?
Need loving tears been ever shed?
These things, beyond my ken.
The years do ease the hurt,
and hardened should I be.
but heart and mind so seldom meet,
that still I think of thee.
No day shall pass without
a loving thought of then,
when love was new and so unwise,
like now, beyond my ken.

I know a little of your thoughts...I know a little of your emotions...
ReplyDelete...I know and I care...
...and I wish you at least a portion of peace...
...to soothe your aching heart.
It wouldn't have been posted here were not all those things already in play. But, thanks for your thoughts. They are sincerely appreciated. Young love. My, my. And it is still with me.

How incredible that you find these words so beautifully and sadly written that embrace your first love....and in my opinion, your last.
ReplyDeleteI'm speechless. Nothing I can say would express how deeply this touched my heart.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine life without my true.
*perhaps a silent nod speaks louder than words*
This is such a beautiful tribute.
ReplyDeleteI hope you don't mind my visiting here every so often.
Your words, perspective, and photos are so rich and inspiring.
