Out of the Camera Stuff

I've been busy with a project that is taking many, many hours on the computer and when I get tired of working on it,I certainly don't feel like writing new posts here.

So, I'll let the camera do the talking:

Ten below zero and the little birds look like golf balls with tails.

This common merganser just surfaced into the cold air.   See the water sheeting off its head?

I shot this American dipper through mist rising off the water, so the photos aren't clear.

The dipper caught a fish and is slamming it against the rocks, apparently trying to separate a chunk small enough to swallow.   You will see the moment when it looks like it's wishing it had teeth or opposable thumbs.

Once it swallowed the head, it left behind the rest of the fish.

Lots of  "noise" from low light and mist.

This dipper was jumping off this ice into the creek to look for underwater food.

That's gold in them thar cricks.

  1. The little birds outside your window look like they could be coaxed to come in and get warm. The American Dipper shows great perseverance! Yes, there is gold in them thar creeks ... in them thar hills too when you show them on your posts. Greetings and love from our Mayo Clinic sojourn in Phoenix, Arizona. Patti and Cap

  2. Sigh, just left a comment that did not appear to post. Again ... the birds outside of your window look like they could be coaxed to come in and get warm! The persistance of the American Dipper is amazing, having caught the fish, no sense in giving up the feast. And, yes, there is gold in them thar creeks ... beautiful! So nice to see pictures from home, genuine Alaska pictures. Greetings and love from our sojourn at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. Patti and Cap P.S. Looking forward to your project completion that is underway!!!
