A Night for Singing, Cheer....and Fretting

Two weeks before Christmas, into Seward I went,

Driving in snow that from Heaven was sent.

The trees were still drooping with the snow from last week,

Turned the fan up on high, and full blast on the heat.

The houses were draped in colors so bright

I stopped and took pictures of that cheery sight.

The school kids sang first—by a director were led,

I took their photo--and the back of Mike’s head.

I was reminded of my high school days,

Christmas songs that we sang at the holidays.

When the concert was over I drove to the store,

Filled my cart with bananas and oranges and more.

I loaded my groceries, then remembered something.

I’d forgotten the O.J when I was shopping.

It must have been fate sent me back to those aisles

‘Cause I found a couple, dressed in red, with big smiles.

It was Santa himself with the missus in tow

Choosing some O.J., wouldn’t you know.

“Christmas shopping?” I asked, then added a laugh,

but later I wondered if that was a gaffe,

On the drive home, I started to fret.

Were they shopping for MY gift with that tiny bas-ket?
