Daybreak in January

One of the many good things about being a substitute mail carrier is that it gets me out of bed and out of the house early enough to see things like this, the dawn of day in Moose Pass.

A minute later:

The route keeps me close to home for an hour and a half, so I get to watch the progression of a new daybreak:

I'll leave for Hope, 35 miles away, in a few minutes, but not before seeing this view of the same mountains:

Official sunrise is at 9:47, and we are gaining four minutes and 34 seconds of daylight today. Summer's coming. Really.

  1. Gorgeous sights! Sunrise at 9:47 sounds so extraordinary and actually is extraordinary.

How close to each other do sunrise and sunset get on your shortest day of the year? I've probably asked you this question a hundred times over the years, but I don't seem to retain the answer!!

  3. Gorgeous. I love that I can watch the sun come up and not have to get up at five in the morning to do it! That's one good thing about our short winter days, I suppose.

I think we are going to be in your neck of the woods soon. My husband and I are going away for the weekend (It's so nice to have a sister here, it's the first time we've ever gone away together!). Since I've never yet been south of Anchorage we thought we'd finally do it. Now, do you have any suggestions on things we should see or do while we're down there? I figured you are the best person to ask :)
